Chin Augmentation
Changing the chin, surgically or not
Chin augmentation changes the shape or projection of the chin, and there is more than one way to do it. Some options are surgical and some are not. The long-term questions are different for each, such as whether an implant stays where it was placed and what maintenance a nonsurgical option needs. A hospital guide to chin implant surgery, recovery, types and risks and a plastic surgery society post on options for a small or recessed chin lay out the choices in general terms.
Chin questions, from options to recovery
Pick the question that matches where you are in the decision.
- Surgical or nonsurgical: how do you weigh the two?
- How is a chin operation carried out?
- What else could take the place of chin augmentation?
- When does eating return to normal after chin surgery?
- How long is the hospital stay?
- How safe are facial implants and chin surgery?
- What comes after the operation?
- How do surgeons place a facial implant?
- Which chin augmentation techniques is the surgeon trained in?
Expected lifespan of a chin result
Ask the surgeon who examines you why they would suggest one option over another for your face, how long they expect the result to last, and what follow-up they plan. A cross-sectional study on minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, who has them and how they feel about themselves afterward is useful background on the nonsurgical side. It is one study, so treat it as context for your questions and not as advice for your decision.
