Issaquah Nose QuestionsHow long results last, and why

Will my insurance cover the procedure?

Whether your plan covers rhinoplasty depends on your plan and on why the surgery is being done. Knowing what to ask, and whom, gets you a firm answer.

Your insurer has the answer

Ask your insurer. Only your plan can answer. The reason for surgery is a good place to start, since cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty are described as different types of operation, and you should find out how your plan treats each.

How to find out

Learn the two types. A national plastic surgery society explains two types of rhinoplasty, cosmetic and functional. A facial plastic surgery academy also has a page on functional rhinoplasty.

Know who a surgeon sees as a candidate. The society also lists rhinoplasty candidates. Ask your insurer whether it needs your surgeon's assessment.

Call your insurer. Ask whether the procedure needs prior authorization, what paperwork is required, and what is excluded. Write down the date, the name of the person you spoke with and what they said.

An insurer's answer before the surgery date

  1. Read the pages on the two types and on candidates.
  2. Ask the surgeon's office, including any in the Issaquah area, whether they can help you submit a request to your insurer.
  3. Get the answer from your insurer in writing before you schedule surgery.

Follow-up and revision costs

Think about the cost of follow-up care and possible revision as well, and ask your insurer how they apply to your plan.
